Simon Baron
Development is applying to the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA)
for a
variance to build a 28 story residential tower on the Paragon Paint
Factory
site at Vernon Blvd
and 45th Road.
This proposed project vastly exceeds
what zoning now allows on Vernon Blvd. and
would dwarf surrounding buildings.
The variance, if granted, sets a dangerous precedent that threatens
what remains
of our neighborhood’s low rise buildings, small homes, and businesses.
Our local Community Board (CB2) has voted decisively against the
variance. But
we need to speak out as individuals from the Community in opposition to
the
variance. Time is short, since the application will likely be heard in
April.
If you agree that this is YOUR
community and want YOUR VOICE
to count in
determining the future of our neighborhood, please sign the Petition at
the
link included below.
Please also consider making a
fully
tax deductible donation of any amount to
the
Hunters Point Community Coalition (HPCC). Founded in 1997, HPCC is
raising
money for legal representation to educate the community in its response
to this
variance application.

Comment:I oppose. LIC Over Developed. Too many people that infrastructure can't handle or Transit either. Run G back to Queens 71 Ave. The stupid transfer at Court Sq would not be necessary. Moving walk ways there always broken.

Comment:I oppose. The infrastructure of this neighborhood can NOT handle another 1,000 residents. The trains are already filled to capacity. The classrooms are filled to capacity.

Comment:I oppose. The property was purchased knowing there were zoning laws restricting height. That's just too bad for the developer. They knew what they were buying.

Comment:This project is out of scale with the neighborhood and is more of the rapid overdevelopment of LIC without regard for the local residents. I oppose this project and anything like it.

Comment:I oppose. LIC does not need another mega tower for the rich, and we should not humor any more of this type of development.

Comment:I oppose. This change will be very bad for the area. Too many people, too much traffic, it is disruptive for the block.
