Simon Baron
Development is applying to the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA)
for a
variance to build a 28 story residential tower on the Paragon Paint
Factory
site at Vernon Blvd
and 45th Road.
This proposed project vastly exceeds
what zoning now allows on Vernon Blvd. and
would dwarf surrounding buildings.
The variance, if granted, sets a dangerous precedent that threatens
what remains
of our neighborhood’s low rise buildings, small homes, and businesses.
Our local Community Board (CB2) has voted decisively against the
variance. But
we need to speak out as individuals from the Community in opposition to
the
variance. Time is short, since the application will likely be heard in
April.
If you agree that this is YOUR
community and want YOUR VOICE
to count in
determining the future of our neighborhood, please sign the Petition at
the
link included below.
Please also consider making a
fully
tax deductible donation of any amount to
the
Hunters Point Community Coalition (HPCC). Founded in 1997, HPCC is
raising
money for legal representation to educate the community in its response
to this
variance application.

Comment:Additionally, Anable Basin is a treasured community resource and development should not be allowed until a plan is adopted respecting the interests of the many community stakeholders - pedestrians, boaters, naturalists, etc.

Comment:As a 10 year resident, I oppose. This building does not fit the character of the neighborhood and it will cause stress upon our current resources and transportation.
