HPCC Advocates For Children

Local residents were disheartened to learn that the Early Childhood Education Center, which was always presented as a major amenity by Queens West to the community, might not accommodate the existing residents after all. This Board of Education funded school might only serve the project's new residents!

It has been called to our attention that the Board is waiting until September to see how many children will occupy the new school's approximately 300 seats, and then fill in with children from the surrounding area. The Coalition questions the strategy of the Board as it relates to this procedure.

Any resident interested in attending a school zoning meeting to determine whether Hunters Point children will be included in the Early Childhood Education Center, please call the Community School Board at (718) 777-4600 for meeting information.

The Coalition urges everyone to get involved. Please call or write Councilman Walter McCaffrey (718) 639-1400, the School Board, and our office.
