Did You Know That:
- Queens West held the groundbreaking for the first of 19 buildings, neglecting to invite the neighborhood.
- 900 piles were driven into the ground for the first building at 5th Street and 48th Avenue. These piles will support the high-rise, since most of the Queens West property is unstable landfill!
- $2-million face lift. These Gantries were once used to load ferries transporting freight cars to and from Manhattan. Queens West plans to spend $2 million of taxpayers money to refurbish just one of the gantries.
- Almost 40% of the trees in the strip-park are dead.
- There is still no public access at the ferry landing evenings and weekends.
- Queens West contruction vehicles should not be using any residential street. They should be using Borden Avenue only!
- This past June, a local resident and union construction worker sought employment at the Queens West construction site and was told ³You will be called.² He is still waiting for the call. What ever happened to the Queens West community hiring office?
